Sprouts Farmers Market is a supermarket chain headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, with a focus on fresh, healthy food and produce. The chain has over 200 stores located primarily across the southern and southwestern United States. The supermarket chain falls into the health food grocery niche market, in the vain of Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods.
The chain was founded by the Henry Boney family, who had been running another grocery chain, Henry’s Farmer Market, since 1943 before opening the second grocery chain in 2002. In 2011, the private equity firm Apollo Global Management acquired both companies and merged them together with Sun Harvest, a citrus fruit company. In 2012, the company merged again with Sunflower Farmers Market.
The grocery chain advocates health living, which they promote as the decision to make daily healthy choices. Sprouts Farmers Market holds that the low cost of their fresh and healthy food products help their customers meet this goal. The company also offers healthy living resources on their website, including recipes, DIYs and How-tos, and special deals at the store.
The overall atmosphere of the store is bright, fresh, and old-fashioned, resembling a classic farmer’s market. The stores have less square footage than the average supermarket chain, adding to the impression of shopping at the local corner grocer. Despite the lesser square footage, the design concept is more spacious than the typical grocery, with lower shelving that reveals more of the store.
The healthy grocery chain has the same full offerings of larger groceries. Alongside the fresh and organic produce and the health supplements, typical fare of a health food store, they also offer a full-scale meat and seafood counter, freshly prepared baked goods, a freezer section, home and cleaning products, and a large choice of natural, organic, and gluten-free products.
Sprouts Interview Questions
Why do you think you would succeed here at our company? Again, do not be arrogant with your answer. Talk about how you feel that you can bring great ideas to the company or how well you work with others. Don’t say, “I think I would succeed because I’m such a great person and you would be lucky to have me.” That is a turn off. Be humble with your answer.
What type of person do you not like to work with? Be considerate with this answer. You never know. The type of person that you do not like to work with might be the interviewer or your direct supervisor. So do not give to many characteristics with this answer because it could be a possible turnoff to the employer. You do not want to seem like you are better than everyone else either. So tread lightly.
Do you see yourself working for us long term or short term? Do you see yourself being here for the next 20-30 years or is this just a stepping stone to the next phase of your life? Some jobs are only looking for short term employees so tell the employer what you are really looking for. If they really want you, they will adjust to make you stay.
If you had the option to retire right now, would you or would you continue to work? If you are one of those people who enjoys working even if you are financially stable, then your answer would be no. If you would retire if you could, then that could be a red flag for employers because it shows that you are only working for the money and not for the enjoyment.
