The very first location opened in Columbus, Ohio in 1974 and was founded by Cardinal Industries. They were originally called Knights Inn because of the medieval-inspired decoration and architecture present on their buildings. The brand was purchased by Cendant in 1995, which was eventually rebranded as Wyndham Worldwide in 2006.
