The artist may be skilled in various areas like realistic drawing, constructive drawing, the ability to draw from life and drawing from memory and imagination. There are no formal educational requirements to become an artist but many attend schooling to get a deeper knowledge of techniques, and application. Many artists have degrees in art history.
